TOYOTA RAV4 U140F Transmission 2000 - up

Complaint:
Transmission fluid going dark on low mileage.

Cause:
Insufficient oil cooler flow.

Correction:
Service auto trans ( use type T fluid) and fit an external oil cooler.
Make sure you by pass the standard tarns cooler including the radiator cooler and any factory cooler already in place. We need this tarns too run on the new cooler alone.

Result:
This will work wonders!
You will be surprised with the difference. Once serviced / flushed , the fluid will stay clean triple the time, then currently.

Complaint:
Bind up/ flair up/ chatter in 3rd gear

Cause:
As we see a lot of these transmissions come through our shop through our affiliation and partnership with Toyota, we are seeing a trend of similar complaints.
The above complaint can be caused by the transmissions E.C.U.

Correction:
Beware !! As it may seem that the transmission is at fault given the above symptoms, don’t overlook the E.CU. (located behind the glove box).

If an attempt is made to replace/ repair the transmission without examining the E.C.U chances are that you may hurt you new auto once installed. Then you will be up for a 2nd transmission and the E.C.U on top. Ouch!

Get the trans / E.C.U diagnosed correctly by your local trans guy or Toyota dealer before making any decisions.
